Academic Difficulties

Ideally, students should be in regular contact with their Staff Graduate Representative and should reach out to them at the first sign of difficulty with coursework or program milestones.

Many students at UC Santa Cruz experience difficulty in their courses, and oftentimes these challenges are not related to academics. Some common issues include time management, family or other personal responsibilities, financial concerns, etc. Some students may also experience difficulty with motivation, mental health, and sense of belonging.

For students, working through challenges and seeking out meaningful support as they progress through their educational journey will help keep them moving forward and accomplishing their academic goals. Please know that students’ Staff Graduate Representatives can help them navigate their academic options and develop strategies for success.
